Depression
*DEPRESSION*
"a state of mind producing serious *long-term* unhappiness, low morale, lowering of enjoyment of life, inability to visualize a happy future which may include thoughts of *self-inflicted injury or suicide*.
There are many factors that contribute to the onset of depression including genetics, changes in hormone levels, certain medical conditions, stress, grief or difficult life circumstances. Our focus factors are stress, grief or difficult life circumstances.
We all have down moments. Every single one of us. Those times when we can't make sense out of the situations surrounding us, when life chooses to show us it's bad side. Challenging moments that dampens our spirit, soul and body.
The aim of this discuss is dual. First is to encourage us to share our life's challenges with trusted people. When we face difficult situations, it does a lot of good to have people we can share our hearts with. This way we can ease our burdens, get comfort, and even solutions to some of our challenges.
Second is for everyone of us to take up the responsibility of checking on people that matter to us. And lending a helping hand in every way we can. I know we can't always keep tabs on everybody in our lives but if I have 3-4 people I keep up with regularly and you do the same, everyone will have someone to check on him or her. And even for folks we don't talk with on a regular basis, once a while when they cross our hearts, let's do well to reach out. Social media makes it easier and cheaper to keep tabs now. Many young people face a lot of difficult situations, many need someone who will reach out to them. It is by keeping up that we can know and help each other in our down times.
